Awaiting the owner's review. These terms describe how the site works today. Clauses that need the owner's business or legal decision, such as the operating entity, fees and refunds, liability and governing law, are marked [Owner to confirm] and are not yet final.
1. About these terms
These terms apply to dextrology.com ("Dextrology", "we", "us"), operated by [Owner to confirm: the legal name and address of the operator]. By using the site you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data.
2. Educational use only
Dextrology is for education. Its walkthroughs, courses, articles and tools describe general principles for clinicians in training. They are not clinical advice, and they are not a substitute for supervised training, assessment of competence, or credentialing by your institution.
- Do not use the site to make decisions about a particular patient. Follow your institution's protocols and the judgement of your supervising clinicians, which take precedence over anything here.
- Never perform a procedure you have only seen here. Practise under qualified supervision and within your scope of practice.
- The site is not for emergencies or for patients seeking advice. If you are a patient, speak to your own doctor.
Read the full medical disclaimer.
3. Accounts
- You sign in with a one-time link sent to your email. Keep access to that mailbox secure: anyone who can read it can sign in as you.
- Give a real email address that is yours, and a name that is not misleading.
- You can delete your account at any time from the privacy page.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the site or other people at risk.
[Owner to confirm: the minimum age for an account]
4. Acceptable use
Do not:
- attempt to break into, disrupt or overload the site, or get around its security or rate limits;
- collect content or data in bulk by automated means without our written permission;
- send unlawful, abusive or misleading messages through our forms, or impersonate someone else;
- submit identifiable patient information. Messages and reports must never contain anything that identifies a patient;
- republish or sell our materials except as allowed in section 7.
5. Sample content
Much of the site is still being built. Items marked Sample content are illustrative examples: they have not been clinically reviewed and must not be relied on. A person is named as faculty or author only when they are a verified member of our faculty and have confirmed the credit; otherwise the item says "Faculty to be announced". Courses marked as previews are not yet open for registration.
6. Courses and registrations
- A registration is a request. Submitting a registration form does not reserve a place. Your place is confirmed only when we confirm it to you by email.
- No payments are taken on this site. Fees, how to pay, and cancellation and refund terms are communicated to you in writing before any payment is due. [Owner to confirm: the fee, payment, cancellation and refund policy]
- Course details (dates, venue, programme, faculty) are as published on the course's page. If something important changes we will tell registered participants by email. [Owner to confirm: what happens if a course is cancelled or rescheduled]
- Hands-on training with patients takes place under the host institution's rules and the direct supervision of the course's faculty, and with patients' consent. Admission to any hands-on activity is at the faculty's discretion. A short course does not qualify anyone to perform procedures independently.
7. Content and licences
- Text, diagrams, course materials and the site's design belong to [Owner to confirm: the copyright holder] unless stated otherwise. You may view them and keep personal notes for your own study. Any other use, such as republishing or teaching material for sale, needs our written permission.
- Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons under their own open licences (or were supplied by the site owner), and each is credited with its source and licence on the image credits page. Reuse them under their licence, not ours.
- Embedded videos belong to their owners and are shown with attribution; YouTube's own terms apply to them.
- Names and logos of institutions belong to those institutions.
8. Corrections and feedback
If you find an error, please report it. We review every report. When you send us suggestions, you allow us to use them to improve the site without owing you anything for them.
9. Other websites
We link to other websites for references and sources. We are not responsible for their content or how they handle your data.
10. Availability
We work to keep the site accurate and available, but it is provided as it is, and we may change, suspend or withdraw any part of it.
11. Liability
[Owner to confirm: a limitation-of-liability clause, reviewed by a lawyer for the law that applies]
Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under the law that applies.
12. Governing law and disputes
[Owner to confirm: the governing law and the courts or process for disputes]
13. Changes to these terms
When we change these terms we update the date at the top. Changes apply from that date; if you keep using the site, the new terms apply to you.
